Jamaica Plain Open Studios Gallery
I am a clinical psychologist with a busy professional life....and a passion for art-making. I work primarily in oils and am showing a combination of traditional plein air paintings, abstracted oil pigment and wax paintings - and some favorite photographs and cards. At best, painting is a form of meditation for me. All of my landscape paintings begin on location. Then, in the studio, I work from my memory of the feel of where I’ve been – with the hope of being able to capture a “sense of place”. As my work has become increasingly abstract, I am loving the sense of magic in seeing what emerges as I apply many layers of oil paint and cold wax, adding and substracting to find what's going on inside, underneath, in between, through, toward - curious about those little moments of experience. What does the painting need, want to say? I'm asking the same questions that I ask in my psychotherapy practice..how fun!
