I’ve been walking around Jamaica Pond for years, usually with camera. It's a good way for me to stay present. I’ve observed the island, people running or walking, children laying, and the landscape, always changing, slowly over the years. Lately, I’ve been working to let go of familiar ways of seeing to pay attention to scenes that I’ve otherwise ignored: debris and castoffs, reflections, visual confusions, and accidental comings-together. Most recently I’ve been exploring the edges of the Pond, the boundary between water and land, the place where one thing changes into another. I’ve found a mix of elements and from that confusion comes a surprising visual feast. I'm showing this new body of work, along with my more familiar shots of the Pond. These new images help me visualize the adventure of stepping off the land and noticing the ambiguous, the unknown. I’m finding interesting images in unusual places as I learn to look outside my familiar categories. It’s fun. I hope you enjoy looking!
